What makes the warhammer 40k hobby crucially expensive?

I have played this hobby for 3 years, and i have all my models nicely painted and assembled, but what i have been thinking over the days is was this hobby really worth it?

I spent hundreds of dollars on this hobby, for 2 purposes. Competitiveness and entertainment of painting. why is everything expensive about this hobby? Even the codex books? What makes the warhammer 40k hobby crucially expensive?
It's expensive because folks are willing to paint it. That and models are always expensive. The Codex/Army Books aren't that expensive $25-$30 isn't bad at all. But yes the paints/models are. We've discussed it a lot and frankly if you want to play the game you'll pay the cost it's a monopoly. Regardless it's totally worth it because the Game is really good (Warhammer more so than 40K, but both are fun!)

Hope this answers your question.

The production costs. During a business studies brief your looking at 250k for the cost of moulds. (at least 3 years ago that was the costing).

Transporting also whacks up the cost.

Staffing costs from the guys operating the machines to the guys designing the minis.

If in a restaurant your looking to charge around 3 x the cost of ingredients same kinda applies to production lines. What makes the warhammer 40k hobby crucially expensive?
war hammers are all hand crafted, therefore the company has to pay the employees a lot for their skills and time therefore the money then counts towards profit and the books are a rip is because nobody pays them
