Can someone give me a quick guide of the attack phase in warhammer 40000 the table top game?

I have played this game a few times and read the book too but i still dont get the hang of it XD

Could someone tell me what is compared to what when attacking and defending please?

Thanks for your help =]Can someone give me a quick guide of the attack phase in warhammer 40000 the table top game?
The summary at the start of the chapter is your best guide.

Whoever's turn it is gets to make an Assault move - generally up to 6" - and all models who reach base contact or within 2" of a model in base contact with the enemy get to fight.

Fighting is done in Initiative order. Roll a number of dice equal to the Attacks characteristic, plus one if the model charged and one if the model has an additional close combat weapon.

Consult the relevant table to see what score on a D6 you require to hit.

Once a hit is scored, damage is caused exactly as in the shooting phase, using the Strength and Toughness of the actual models (rather than weapons).

Once you know how many wounds have been inflicted, allocate them according the rules in the book: that's one to each model in combat and surplus wounds allocated at the owning player's discretion (more or less - it's more complicated than that, but the rulebook gives the details). Roll armour saves and remove casualties.

Now move on to the next Initiative stage.

If there's a specific part of the rules that's confusing you then feel free to ask again. Can someone give me a quick guide of the attack phase in warhammer 40000 the table top game?
I will ask a friend and send an answer if you don't get one. I haven't started playing yet- still in the painting phase.

But my friends know all the rules.

I'll get back with you shortly.
