What is the best HQ for Space Marines in Warhammer 40k?

I play Warhammer 40k the tabletop game and I was just wondering What the best HQ is for Space Marines. What is the best HQ for Space Marines in Warhammer 40k?
I hate to have to say it again, but "it depends".

It depends on what sort of army you want to run against what sort of opponent. At points values of 1000 or below, a Captain is probably all you need against most opponents. You can take an special character and Chapter Tactics to suit your army. If you're bolter-heavy, take Lysander or Kantor. If you've got a lot of flamers, meltas and thunder hammers, take Vulkan. If you like using jump packs and assault squads, go for Shrike. And if you want to max out on bike squads, then go for the Khan. If you're more an all-round sort of army then you're probably better off sticking to a conventional captain and using the extra points on a few more men or some funky wargear.

If you're pushing up to 1500, then consider a second choice, such as a Chaplain or Librarian. I like to attach the former to my assault squad, but keep the latter in reserve for fighting Tyranid monstrous creatures.

Beyond 1500, you should be considering a Chapter Master. The investment of points is heavy, but the effectiveness of the orbital strike - even held purely as a psychological weapon - cannot be underestimated. This is the point at which a heavy-hitter like Calgar can be considered. What is the best HQ for Space Marines in Warhammer 40k?
As is often the case with 40k, the best choices will often depend on your style of combat, and what you want the leader to be doing.

I use a space marine captain with artificer aurmor, power sword, jump pack, hellfire rounds , plasma pistol and a bolter.

His job is to accompany my Assualt Squad in and attack the enemy at close quaters. if he finds his bodygaurd killed and he himself is overwhelmed, he will use combat tactics to fall back 3D6" and join a tactical squad, using the hellfire rounds in his bolter (wound on 2+).

The reason i use him like this is because ive thought out a predefined act for him on the battlefeild, if you do the same while staring at the entry for a HQ choice youll soon start to see it. My major advise is to steer clear of any named HQ's unless your especially interested in their special abilities granted to the force (like the "all bikes are troops" one) because opponents tend tto point every lascannon, plasmacannon and peice of ordanance they have in his direction. What is the best HQ for Space Marines in Warhammer 40k?
You could use the most overused Space Marine hero in the game, Marneus Calgar.

He's strong, can take a hit, and has a cool name!

The only problem is that he costs more than a land raider...
my friend who plays space marines often fields Darneth Lysander with thunder hammer and storm shield. And it is very hard to take down!
