What is the official whereabouts of the Dark Angels Primarch in Warhammer 40k?

Ive heard he just disappeared then another said he disappeared but is sleeping hidden within the rock when he was taken away by the watchers. That's why everyone thinks he has gone? Whats right and whats not? What is the official whereabouts of the Dark Angels Primarch in Warhammer 40k?
The story - as recounted in the original Codex: Angels of Death - goes that, when the Dark Angels reached the place where Luther and the Lion had been fighting, the Lion was gone and Luther lay defeated. Luther would say, apparently, only that "the Watchers took him... the Watchers in the Dark!"

It is said that Luther still lives, held in stasis in the most secure cell of the remains of the Dark Angels' homeworld, Caliban: their space-borne fortress-monastery, the Rock. The most senior Interrogator-Chaplain occasionally attempts to force more information out of him, but thus far Luther has remained silent.

As for the Lion, it is thought that he was carried away by the mysterious warp-entities known as the Watchers in the Dark and resides in a secret chamber, deep in the heart of the Rock.

That said, Gav Thorpe's "Angels of Darkness" casts a great deal of doubt on this (still very secret) account. And events described in the Horus Heresy series likewise call the official (secret) story into doubt.

Gav is on record as saying that he regrets that the "deep, dark secret" of the Dark Angels was given away so explicitly in the Angels of Death codex and he is part of a concerted effort to muddy those waters. Current fan-speculation is that the story of Luther and the Lion's final battle and the fate of the Lion is an elaborate cover, left for the sufficiently-inquisitive to uncover and with which to satisfy them.

What is the truth? Was the Lion the true traitor? Did the Dark Angels fall from grace in the dying days of the Horus Heresy? Hopefully, we'll never know and the true fate of Lion El'Jonson will remain shrouded in mystery until the End of Days...
